Where Venice welcomes you to the table.

Half a century at the gateway of the city — a romantic room of bare brick and quiet candle-light, opening onto a terrace that watches the church sleep on the far bank of the canal. Homemade pizza, fresh pasta, the morning's catch from the market. Pull out a chair, lift a spritz, let Venice unfold slowly.

La sala

A kitchen faithful to the lagoon.

A few quiet steps from Piazzale Roma and the Santa Lucia station, we are — for many travellers arriving by bus, by car or by train — the first true Venetian table of the journey, and a candle-lit refuge to return to once the day is done.

The cooking is honest and unmistakably Venetian: homemade pizza pulled hot from the oven, fresh pasta tossed by hand, and seafood we choose ourselves at the market each morning — the way it has always been done here. Beside it all, a beautiful selection of spritz, raised slowly under the afternoon sun.

Dal mercato

The morning's catch, unhurried on the plate.

Vongole, cozze, scampi and the sweet shrimp of the Adriatic — chosen each morning at the Rialto market and brought straight to the kitchen. A bright, generous broth, tomato pulled into the sauce, parsley and a single wedge of lemon to finish.

Beside it, homemade pizza, hand-tossed pasta, and a quiet glass of Soave from the hills behind Verona — the cooking of the lagoon as it has always been.
